Mallorca: Ports

Posted by

Mallorca is known for its numerous small fishing villages, which give the island its typical charm and that certain something that makes it so popular with many. With such a number of fishing villages and its location in the Mediterranean, it is only logical that Mallorca must also have numerous ports, especially since until a few years ago the sea was the only way to communicate, receive or export goods, and to visit and leave the island. In total, there are around 45 ports on the Balearic island of Mallorca with 18,000 berths. There are both marinas, fishing ports and a sports harbor on the island.

Current ferry schedules / book ferries

Ferries are often full, you often cannot find the right office to buy tickets, there are long queues at the counter, there are language problems.

The most famous marinas on the island include the port of Cala d’Or, the port of Cala Figuera and the port of Can Picafort. The port of Cala Figuera is also a fishing port. The marinas are not only used by locals, but also by German holidaymakers, mostly the more well-off ones, who have their yachts moored here, sometimes all year round. Some of the island’s marinas are downright famous. The yachts here are sometimes worth as much as several family homes and are therefore always admired by package tourists and mass tourists. Even if this is not usually the reason for a visit to the marina, you simply cannot help but admire these magnificent yachts. Well-known fishing ports are the port of Portocristo, the port of Portocolom and the port of Colonia de Sant Pere.

These are particularly distinguished by their beautiful location in the fishing villages. A harmonious picture of fishing boats and the associated boathouses, which give the area a beautiful rural flair, delights visitors to these ports. The fishermen are usually not in the least irritated by the many visitors. On the contrary, they simply go about their daily work completely apathetic, as if there were no one watching them. This is precisely what makes these fishing villages and their ports so charming: you can observe life on Mallorca, away from tourism, exactly as it really is every day, without the residents getting distracted or even behaving unnaturally.

It is precisely for this reason that the small fishing villages are becoming increasingly popular with tourists and are now at least represented in the excursion program of almost every holidaymaker. The only sports harbor on the island is in Cala Major, which mainly serves those who come to Mallorca to do water sports and those who offer the opportunity to do water sports. There is also a seaport in Palma, combined with a yacht and fishing harbor. This seaport is primarily used to transport goods that are to be imported or left the country, but ships that bring holidaymakers who arrive by ship also call at the seaport, as do ships from neighboring islands, either with passengers or with goods.
